Support Area

Gait and mobility support

Mobility support may range from early assisted movement to gait trainers and walkers. The correct direction depends on the child’s control, stepping ability, endurance, environment and supervision.

What the review considers

Postural control

Head and trunk control, pelvic stability and the support needed to remain upright.

Stepping ability

Whether the child initiates steps, bears weight, crosses legs, leans heavily or needs directional support.

Environment

Indoor and outdoor surfaces, door widths, transport, storage and available caregiver assistance.

Participation goal

Therapy, exploration, school participation, household mobility or supported exercise.

Useful information
