Support Area

Standing and weight-bearing support

Standing equipment should be considered around alignment, tolerance, transfers, supervision, functional goals and relevant professional guidance—not from age or diagnosis alone.

Key review areas

Current ability

Head and trunk control, weight-bearing tolerance, lower-limb position and ability to transfer into standing.

Intended use

Home, school or clinic setting; activity goals; standing duration; available supervision and space.

Safety context

Pain, hip or spinal concerns, recent surgery, skin risk, contractures and professional restrictions.

Measurements and professional input

Standing systems frequently require detailed body measurements and review by a physiotherapist, occupational therapist or clinician familiar with the child.

  • Height and weight
  • Hip, knee and foot alignment
  • Chest, pelvic and support levels
  • Transfer method and caregiver capacity

Standing support is not appropriate for every child or every stage of care. Medical and therapy precautions should be reviewed locally before use.
