Measurement Support
Choose the right measurement guide
These guides help families, caregivers and professionals prepare preliminary measurements for seating, standing, mobility, transfers, bathroom support and home accessibility.
You do not need to complete every measurement. Record “Not sure” or “Unable to measure safely” whenever appropriate.
Measurements support SafetyAid’s equipment review but do not confirm final sizing, suitability or safety.
Measure only when it is safe
Do not attempt unsupported sitting or standing, painful movement, difficult lifting or an unsafe transfer. Stop if the person becomes uncomfortable or unstable. Ask another adult or a qualified professional for help when needed.
Preparation
Before you start
- Use centimetres unless the guide states otherwise.
- Keep the person comfortably supported.
- Do not force the body into a straighter position.
- Ask someone to assist when the tape cannot be placed safely by one person.
- Record “Unable to measure safely” rather than taking a risky or unreliable measurement.

Safety note: Measure in a stable, supported sitting position. Do not force upright posture.

Who can help with measurements?
Measurements may be prepared by a family member, caregiver or professional. Complex seating, standing, mobility and transfer situations may benefit from input from a physiotherapist, occupational therapist, orthotist or rehabilitation professional.
Most new users will not have a SafetyAid or RehabMart reference number. A reference is only needed if SafetyAid has already provided one.
This page does not collect, store or submit personal information or measurements. The specialist guides allow users to prepare, print or voluntarily share their own measurement details.
